HoYoVerse launches Zenless Zone Zero 1.1 update, promotes Qingyi, teases Burnice and Caesar as new additions

HoYoVerse has just launched the latest major update for Zenless Zone Zero, bringing the game up to version 1.1 and expanding its roster with Qingyi, a new playable character. The company also teased Caesar and Burnice, two more new characters potentially slated for addition in the version 1.2 update or beyond.

Qingyi is the newest S-rank playable character, and like Zhu Yuan, the previous new character, is a member of the New Eridu Public Security faction. She also plays a role in the newly added story update, titled "Undercover R&B," which involves the NEPS taking on a brutal militant group, the Mountain Lions, and encountering Jane Doe, a mysterious agent with unclear allegiances. Jane Doe will join the playable cast  during the second half of the version 1.1 update.

Prior to the version 1.1 update launch, HoYoVerse promoted Qingyi with a number of bespoke trailers as well, showing off her cybernetically enhanced combat prowess.

Qingyi is an Electric-element Stun unit, similar to the free character Anby Demara (though Anby is just an A-rank). Unlike Anby, though, Qingyi has a unique mechanic that enhances her ability as a unit that can quickly pummel and stun enemies with her charged three-section staff. She can build up a "Flash Connect Voltage" gauge when dealing Electric damage to enemies, and it can enhance her attacks, increase her Daze output, increase the damage multiplier that enemies take while stunned. Typically this damage multiplier tops out at 150%, but Qingyi can boost it up to a maximum of 230%.

Just before the version 1.1 launch, HoYoVerse also launched a Chinese-language music video focused on Qingyi (as they did when previous limited characters Ellen Joe and Zhu Yuan joined the roster).

Though the 1.1 update just launched, HoYoVerse didn't wait to tease what might be coming up in future additions, by revealing two new characters: Caesar King and Burnice White. Both are members of the Sons of Calydon faction, a biker gang that rolls through the wastelands surrounding New Eridu. Burnice is a Fire-element Anomaly unit and seems to be fixated on mixology - both for drinks and vehicle fuel. Caesar is a Physical-element Defense unit, and, depending on when she arrives, will likely be the third Defense unit in the game, after Ben Bigger and Seth Lowell. Burnice and Caesar will join their fellow Sons of Calydon Piper and Lucy when they're added to the roster, which is likely to be around the 1.2 update or beyond.

Zenless Zone Zero is available on PS5, PC, iOS and Android.
