Yakuza Kiwami launches on Switch on October 24
Sega announced that Yakuza Kiwami is headed to Nintendo Switch on October 24, 2024. A remake of the original 2005 Yakuza game, Yakuza Kiwami originally launched on PS4 in 2016, then later arrived on Xbox One and PC.
The release will mark the first time a Yakuza title has landed on the Switch. Kiwami places players in control of Kazuma Kiryu, a gangster who returns to the entertainment district of Kamurocho after ten years in jail for a crime he didn't commit. Expanding on both the story and systems of the original Yakuza, Kiwami used an updated combat system based on prequel Yakuza 0, and added the "Majima Everywhere" system, where fan-favorite character Goro Majima shows up to menace Kiryu all over Kamurocho.
More recent Yakuza series entries have adopted the Like A Dragon moniker, a title closer to the Japanese series name of Ryu Ga Gotoku. These include the latest games in the series, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
Sega also shared a trailer for Yakuza Kiwami's Switch debut, which aired during the August 27, 2024 Nintendo Direct. Check it out below, along with more information from the official press release.
