Metal Storm pre-registrations opened in Japan with standalone PC launcher and gameplay trailers
HK Ten Tree has opened pre-registrations for Metal Storm, the Japanese version of the mecha strategy RPG MechArashi. The company has also been publishing gameplay trailers on the game's official YouTube channel.
When the company first revealed the Japanese release last July, they did not publish any gameplay trailer or screenshots of the game that has been available first in China since last Winter. They have since been gradually adding gameplay trailers with proper Japanese interface on YouTube.
Here is the Battle System trailer, which shows how the game still retains many of its Front Mission-esque gameplay systems since it was originally developed as Front Mission: Borderscape:
The second one is the Painting and Decal trailer, which pretty straightforwardly shows how you can customize a mech's colors from the available palettes while applying additional decals:
The third trailer goes more in-depth as it explains the types of Jobs and Weapons. In overall, this game will have a total of 6 jobs available for pilots:
- Fighter - Uses melee weapons and aims for one-hit destructions. If they can destroy a part, they will gain extra movements.
- Ranger - Prefers close-range guns like shotguns. They can also follow up on other allies' attacks.
- Sniper - Can aim to pinpoint a specific part to destroy with the sniper rifle.
- Commander - Prefers launching long-range armaments like missiles or rockets.
- Shielder - Literal tanks that are intended to be placed up front to absorb damage and restrict enemy movements via zone of control.
- Engineer - Can equip supportive backpacks to repair ally units and provide other kinds of support.
In addition, the mech units that would be known as Wanzer in Front Mission have been renamed to ST in the Japanese Metal Storm release. There will be 3 types of ST available, and each pilot will be generally licensed to use one of them based on their job and skill set:
- Heavy ST - Has the highest HP and armor, and can also equip heavy equipment like gatling gun and shield for Shielders.
- Medium ST - Has well-balanced stats and can equip a variety of equipment, including repair units for Engineer pilots.
- Light ST - Has high mobility that also gives a good evasion rate, and can also exclusively equip a flying unit that lets them fly over obstacles.
This game will be available as a free-to-play title on PC, Android, and iOS. While the Android and iOS versions are slated to be available via the respective official Google Play Store and Apple App Store, the PC version will be available via a standalone launcher. Those who want to play the game on PCs can instantly download and install the launcher, which will be updated with a proper launch version once the game has officially gone live.
The new main promotional trailer for Metal Storm can be found right below. As of this writing, it has yet to be confirmed whether Zlongame has plans to release a global English version of this game or not, including whether they'll use the original Chinese title MechArashi or the more English-like Japanese title Metal Storm.
