Level-5 reveals Yo-kai Watch spiritual successor ghost crafting RPG Holy Horror Mansion
Level-5 has revealed a new project related to Yo-kai Watch at the Level-5 Vision 2024 presentation. While the new project is touted as the next concept for Yo-kai Watch, the series name won't be featured at all in the new project as its title will be simply Holy Horror Mansion.
The Yo-kai Watch series has been very comparable with popular monster franchises like Pokemon and Digimon, which have players collect creatures to fight for them. But in lieu of monsters, this series features yokai and other folktale ghosts. And while the Yo-kai Watch series featured Medals that the players must obtain to summon the ghosts, Holy Horror Mansion will have different methods as its spiritual successor.
The new ghost-crafting RPG will star Ten Lordland, a boy who will encounter multiple colored ghost spirits and get caught up in turmoils related to them. The green ghost can inhibit any objects like piggy banks and lucky cat figurines to turn them into living creatures. The blue ghost will let the player create living Chimeras out of various objects based on the available design blueprints. And the pink ghost can generate dungeons for Ten to explore.
As a side note, Akihiro Hino also teased that Holy Horror Mansion will be the largest cross-media project Level-5 has attempted to date. The company had also collaborated with Japanese celebrities and dancers to produce the reveal trailer, as seen in the appearances of Pikotaro of PPAP (Pen Pineapple Apple Pen) fame and Avantgardey, the dance group that took part in the 2023 America's Got Talent.
You can find the standalone reveal trailer for Holy Horror Mansion with Japanese voiceovers and English (& Chinese) subtitles right below. Level-5 has yet to confirm the new game's release window or platforms as of this announcement.
