New Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars footage shows remastered menus

The recent Tokyo Game Show 2024 Xbox Showcase brought with it a new round of footage from Konami's effort to refurbish PS1-era RPGs Suikoden and Suikoden II for modern platforms, Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars. Though not revealing any new information, the footage did offer glimpses of the remastered in-game user interface and menus, as well as some more comparisons between the original graphics on the PlayStation and the new, slightly touched-up remaster graphics.

Check it out below, at the 40:25 time stamp.

Presented by Suikoden IP and Game Director Takahiro Sakiyama, the short video included an apology to fans for the delays that pushed the game out of 2023, but offered an update on progress ahead of the finalized March 6, 2025 release date. A brief comparison of the remastered graphics also showed off an image of Futch's dragon partner flying through the sky. In the original version, the dragon was half-submered in a large white field meant to represent floating clouds. The remastered edition largely uses the same sprites, but touches up the sky art to more clearly show the dragon in flight. Similar efforts sharpen environmental art on the field and overworld maps, and clean up and redesign the user interface to be readable on HD screens.

Sakiyama also highlighted some additional sound effects to enhance the environmental and ambient soundscape, without distracting from the original soundtrack. Convenience features like increased combat speeds and one-button battle controls will also make the repeated encounters more palatable.

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars will launch on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC on March 6, 2025.
