Final Fantasy XIV TGS live panel previews 7.1 update, shows off new activities and Final Fantasy XI raids

At the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail Producer Naoki Yoshida and Community Producer Toshio Murouchi were on hand to tease more about the game's upcoming 7.1 update. The update itself is expected to launch in mid-November 2024, and is titled "Crossroads." It'll follow on from version 7.0, the main Dawntrail expansion, which launched in July 2024.

As is the pattern for FFXIV, the patch will be a new major content addition, bringing new quests and activities targeted at players who've cleared the main Dawntrail quest lines.

  • An expansion of the Main Scenario Quest, building on the events of Dawntrail proper.
  • New Allied Society quests for combat classes, this time featuring the Pelupelu people.
  • New Custom Deliveries for the character Nitowikwe.
  • New Role Quests for players who've finished off the Dawntrail role quests.
  • A new Wachumeqimeqi Delivery for those who've finished off the crafting and gathering quests in Dawntrail.
  • More Hildibrand quests, this time titled "Inconceivably Further Hildribrand Adventures."
  • An expansion of the Duty Support system (which allows solo players to take NPC companions into dungeons and certain trials) to include dungeons that aren't on the Main Scenario Quest line, starting with the early-game Halatali dungeon.
  • Additional optional tutorials in the Hall of the Novice beginner area introducing players to more advanced mechanics and visual indicators, including stack and spread markers, to better prepare new players to tackle raids and more complex encounters.
  • An new level of difficulty called Chaotic Alliance Raids, which are retunings of existing Alliance Raids to increase the challenge level, between Extreme and Savage difficulty (though closer to Savage). The first Chaotic Alliance Raid is "The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic)," based on the version 2.0 "World of Darkness" raid. Yoshida said that Chaotic Alliance Raids will have brand-new mechanics and unique rewards, as well as incentives to play with newer players.
  • A new Dungeon, "Yuweyawata Field Station, a new Extreme Trial, "The Minstrel's Ballad: Sphene's Burden, and a new Unreal Trial, based on Stormblood's "The Jade Stoa."
  • A new Ultimate Trial based on the Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers Eden raid series, called "Futures Rewritten (Ultimate)."
  • The beginning of the new Alliance Raid series based on Final Fantasy XI, the first installment of which is titled "Jeuno: The First Walk."
  • Updates to the Doman Mahjong minigame, adding voice commentary from the Scion characters and purchaseable in the Gold Saucer for Manderville Gold Points.
  • Updates to the Housing system allowing players to choose regional interior designs irrespective of locations, as well as adding new interior designs. Yoshida hinted that plans are in place to detach the interior size from the exterior size of the house, theoretically allowing S-size houses to hold L-size interiors, and so on.

Final Fantasy XIV is available on PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. The Dawntrail version 7.1 update launches in mid-November 2024. More details about version 7.1, including for Job adjustments, will be revealed in another livestream later on.
