Shin Megami Tensei IV Reportedly Announced for the 3DS
In a move that I am sure has surprised many, Atlus has revealed that the newest installment in the Shin Megami Tenseni series will come not on a console as many would expect/hope it to be, but instead be arriving on a more diminuitive screen - the Nintendo 3DS, to be exact.
In this week's issue of Famitsu, Shin Megami IV is allegedly having its big debut. According to Siliconera, this was first made public by the Japanese retail blog Sinobi through a Twitter message on its page earlier today. Considering it is still up an hour later, this may indeed be made factual in the coming days when the issue hits newsstands. They have also said that the official site for SMT4 will go live tomorrow on this page. No other information has been revealed as of this time.
With an announcement like this, we are once again reminded that the people in Japan are making a bigger move towards becoming a more mobile society and gamers in the West are feeling the effects of this. With the massive success that Dragon Quest IX was for Square-Enix, this is hardly an ambitious move because history has shown that it can be done and very well at that. One's feelings on that are a different story entirely, but in my opinion, until game development costs start to fall, expect more and more developers to embrace the mobile and handheld community even further. We'll report as soon as we find out more information regarding this compelling piece of information.
