Yes, you can change your name in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and also change your party members' names. This isn't available immediately though so keep that in mind when you name your hero and party members.
How to change your name in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
After you've played a good amount of the game and have reached Alltrades Abby, the NPC on the left, Servant of Appello, at the location in the map above will let you change the name of your hero or party members.
