Publisher Nacon and developer Eko Software (Warhammer: Chaosbane) have just released another trailer for Dragonkin: The Banished, the co-op isometric action RPG, ahead of its early access release this March to showcase the game's unique skill system.

The new "Hack'N'Slash skill system" is called the Ancestral Grid. This system evolves as players level up. Players can use Fragments that have skills or modifiers on the grid to customize their playstyle. This Ancestral Grid also has some puzzle elements.

Eko Software and NACON have released a new video for Dragonkin: The Banished, revealing the mechanics of the new Hack'N'Slash skill system. This new system, called the Ancestral Grid, allows players to create their most effective builds to overcome the hordes of enemies that reign in this dragon-corrupted world. Dragonkin: The Banished will be available in early access on Steam from March 6, 2025, and on consoles on its final release.

Dragonkin: The Banished’s skill system is based on the Ancestral Grid, an interface that evolves with the character. Each class has its own Grid, which expands as players gain levels. On this Grid are placed Fragments, hexagonal pieces of loot containing skills or modifiers. By aligning these Fragments, players customize their playstyle: skills are added to the character's skill bar, while modifiers boost the effectiveness of skills they are in contact with.

More than just a skill tree, the Ancestral Grid functions like a puzzle. As players progress through the game, they obtain increasingly powerful and complex Fragments.

The adventure is also enriched by a unique companion: your dragonet. This young, trained dragon adds an extra strategic dimension by having its own place in the Grid and triggering special effects.

The Eko Software team, made up of Hack'N'Slash fans, wanted to bring this new and unique feature that invites deep customization and engaging theorycrafting, giving players the tools to build unique builds.
