Final Fantasy VII may rerelease on Steam after all
Fresh details on a potential PC rerelease of Final Fantasy VII have got out via a leak from a new website registered by Square Enix.
The domain in question, FinalFantasyVIIPC.com, was previous held by an individual external to the company. When it expired, Square Enix snapped the domain up.
That was a few days ago, but it appears during the transfer an unfinished version of a webpage designed for that address was briefly visible to the public.
That webpage contains a laundry list of features for a new PC-based version of Final Fantasy VII as well as a price point for European territories of £7.99/€9.99. Google Cache still has the page saved.
According to the site the new PC release will include achievements, cloud saves and online-based profiles for comparing results and progress against friends and rivals. There'll also be a character booster - essentially letting you cheat, adjusting levels, skills, cash and so on.
This comes almost a year to the day after we reported that versions of Final Fantasy VII and VIII were on Steam, but the rerelease had stalled due to issues getting the dated ports working well on modern PC hardware.
We've spoken to Square Enix and, as expected, they hit us back with a hearty "No Comment."
