These Switch 1 RPGs have compatibility issues on the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch

Nintendo has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will be backward-compatible with almost all games released for the original 2017 Switch. However, the company noted that a minority of the games will still have compatibility issues when the new console launches on June 5. Nintendo has published the list of affected titles, and we have also noticed that some of the RPGs we covered in the past are included there.

The only game that is completely unplayable on Switch 2 is Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit because the Switch 2 does not fit inside the Toy-Con VR Goggles, but that should not be an issue for RPG players. The PDF files on the official English webpage, however, list games that have compatibility issues during or not long after start-up. We have spotted titles like the Pixel Remaster of the first Final Fantasy, Koei Tecmo's Nights of Azure 2, Nihon Falcom's Tokyo Xanadu eX+, and Compile Heart's Super Neptunia RPG and Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars to name a few.

In almost all entries on the Japanese list, Nintendo noted that they are investigating with the games' respective developers. The only entry with a different description is Fortnite, which is slated to have a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition released, but is not an RPG either.

Ring Fit Adventure compatibility status in Nintendo Switch 2

There is another special case for the first-party Nintendo game we covered previously: Ring Fit Adventure. The game is still playable on the Switch 2, but it will not be compatible with the Joy-Con 2 sticks. Players will instead have to connect the Joy-Cons from the original Switch 1 to the Switch 2 in order to play it on the newer console.
