Nintendo-exclusive Super Robot Wars games' developer company A,I Co., Ltd. has gone bankrupt
The Japanese game development company A,I Co., Ltd., mostly best known for working on Nintendo console exclusive Super Robot Wars entries, is no more. The Japanese Bankruptcy Information Accumulation Center website spotted the company starting to file for bankruptcy earlier this year on March 10. The same document added that April 14 is the deadline date for submissions of claims for the bankruptcy, with another hearing set to commence on June 17 at 1:15 PM JST.
A,I was established in July 1990. One of the first games they worked on was Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure for PC Engine in 1993. However, they eventually become known for mostly developing games for Super Famicom (SNES) and subsequent Nintendo consoles, such as Hudson's Bomberman B-Daman and Atlus' Power Instinct. They also worked on producing mini-games for Mario Party 2, Mario Party 3, and Mario Party Advance.
A,I ultimately became best known for developing Super Robot Wars games that appeared exclusively on Nintendo consoles. The cooperation started with Super Robot Wars 64 for the Nintendo 64 in 1999. But despite the specific fame, not every game they worked on is Nintendo-exclusive. A,I also worked on Super Robot Wars XO—the Xbox 360 port of the GameCube entry Super Robot Wars GC, as well as the remake of the first-ever Super Robot Wars for the PS3 and Vita. In addition, they were also involved in the development of the 2018 title-specific PS4 strategy RPG Full Metal Panic! Fight! Who Dares Wins, which also became the very last title they worked on.
The last SRW title A,I worked on was Super Robot Wars BX for Nintendo 3DS in 2015. This was also the last console title to be released exclusively in Japan before Bandai Namco launched the international localization arc with Super Robot Wars OG: The Moon Dwellers in 2016 and Super Robot Wars V in 2017.
