Compile Heart to release Magic Librarian Ariana for Switch, PS5, and PS4 in Japan this Summer

Compile Heart has just opened an official website for their upcoming new 2D side-scrolling action RPG. This game will have the Japanese title Mahou Shisho Ariana ~Shichi Eiketsu no Sho~, which we translate to Magic Librarian Ariana ~The Books of the Seven Heroes~. It will be available in Japan for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 in Summer 2025.

This is not the first time we have heard of this title. Compile Heart previously listed this game in the list of projects they are preparing to release in 2025. Today's update comes with details on the game's story synopsis and main characters, along with several gameplay screenshots of the 2D action RPG.

Story Synopsis

1,500 years ago, there was a person who brought magic to humankind. She gave them a set of four magic-producing books called the "Books of the Four Elements" and a "Magic Pen" needed to write magic books.

Having known about the concept of "magic" and the existence of "magical power", humankind produced various kinds of magic books in this world with the Magic Pen.

Among those books, the set of three books called the "Books of the Three Phenomena" possessed magical power that equaled the Books of the Four Elements. These seven books became collectively known as the "Books of the Seven Heroes", and the "Library" facility was set up to manage and fix all the magic books.

In the present era, an incident occurred in the library, which has been storing an enormous amount of wisdom and sources of all magic. The Books of the Seven Heroes were altered by someone. As a result, magic disappeared from the world.

The librarian Ariana's duty is to fix the altered Books of the Seven Heroes. She can use special librarian magic that lets her actually enter the books.

Can Ariana safely fix all the books while deciphering the mystery hidden by the Library?

Main Characters

• Ariana Virellis (Japanese voice actress to be announced later)
  The protagonist of this game. As the only librarian in the world who has the "magic to enter books", she goes to fix the Books of the Seven Heroes.
  She is also looking for the whereabouts of both of her parents, who went missing during her childhood.
   
• John Berkeley (voiced in Japanese by Ryuzaburo Otomo)
  The chief librarian of the library where Ariana works.
  He ordered Ariana, who has the "magic to enter books", to fix the Books of the Seven Heroes.
   
• Vester (voiced in Japanese by Kikuko Inoue)
  An Automata created by Divina.
  She calls Ariana "Young Lady" and provides support to her livelihood.
   
• Divina Orden (voiced in Japanese by Sally Amaki)
  A major magician who is conducting magic research in the library. She authored many of the books in the same library.
  Divina is also friends with Ariana's parents, and she supports Ariana as she feels a responsibility to look after her growth.
   
• Astreo Virellis (voiced in Japanese by Jun Fukuyama)
  Ariana's father. He went missing during his daughter's childhood. However...
   
• Eleanor Virellis (voiced in Japanese by Kikuko Inoue)
  Ariana's mother. She went missing during her daughter's childhood. However...
