Dragon Quest IX supposed to be on Multiple Carts?
Over in Japan there's already quite some excitement about Dragon Quest IX - the latest installment of the hugely popular RPG, now set to be heading to the Nintendo DS.
The rumour mill about the game has already started, but the most interesting one appeared late last night - could the game be set to run across two DS cartridges?
The following picture supposedly emerged from Square Enix's press conference - leaked from behind the scenes showings of the game. It was sent to us anonymously. The image shows two Dragon Quest carts in one DS box, numbered 1 and 2.
While games spreading across multiple disks is common, we've never heard of a multiple cartridge game before, unless you count Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The DS crashes if you even remove a cart at the main menu, let alone in-game, and there's no way for the game to transfer your save data from one cart to another - how will it know you've finished cart 1? Aside from all that, the image looks very strange to us - something just doesn't quite seem right about it.
Because of this, for now, our verdict on this is fake; but it's an interesting image nonetheless. Perhaps it points to multiple versions of the game, or an extra cart containing extra backstory and so on to be included with the game on release? We'll bring you more as we get it.
