Final Fantasy XIII Battle System Director Announced
It has been announced that Toshiro Tsuchida has taken on the role of Battle System director for Square's hugely anticipated entry in the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XIII for PS3.
Toshiro is most famous for his work as the creator of the Front Mission franchise, but he also worked on Final Fantasy X whilt taking a break from Front Mission and is nor returning to the series for FF13. What this means for the Front Mission series is up for debate - with the latest title not making it's way to US shores, things don't look so good.
Toshiro has promised depth in battles, promising a Japanese magazine that the battle system will "let you feel the character's feelings. I want the character's role in battle to mirror their role in the story."
For those concerned - or indeed excited that Toshiro's return spells the return of random encounters, he puts these fears (or hopes) to rest in this interview, outright stating that Final Fantasy XIII will not be featuring random encounters.
He also commented that his team are working on giving enemies personalities so that each individual enemy fights slightly differently past what has been shown in previous FF games. He refused to comment on a job system.
