Square Enix to launch Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn PS4 beta at Japanese launch

Square Enix will launch a beta of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for PlayStation 4 for the system's Japanese release on February 22, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia president Hiroshi Kawano announced today.

In addition, Japanese players who picked up the PS3 version of the recently-relaunched MMO will be able to get the PS4 version for free. Expect more details at Tokyo Game Show next week.

It was unannounced at the time if such a test would happen in the west, but Square Enix Europe has since confirmed that there will be a European beta and it will also kick off on February 22.

The PS4 version of FFXIV: ARR was announced at E3.
