Fate/Grand Order coming to the United States this summer

During their panel at Sakuracon today in Seattle, Aniplex of America have announced they will be helping bring the insanely popular free-to-play smartphone game Fate/Grand Order to English speaking audiences sometime this summer. It will be in Japanese with English text, with work being done to sync up with the current release as quickly as possible. They have also announced during the panel it will be a separate app on a different server, so you won't be able to use your Japanese account on the US version of the game.

Fate/Grand Order is set in the same universe that spawned visual novels, anime, video games, light novels, and much more. In it, you take on the role of a Master who commands Servants, some of which are manifestations of famous historical figures. Here is the story synopsis from Wikipedia:

In 2015, the final era where sorcery still exists, the Chaldea Security Organization, its numerous projects having guaranteed humanity's existence through to the next century, discovers that the future they have observed no longer exists, and calculates that humanity will now go extinct in 2016. It traces the cause of this event to an anomaly that has appeared in 2004 in Fuyuki City. To avert the extinction of mankind, Chaldea decides to use its sixth experiment, time travel, converting its agents into spirit particles and sending them through time to destroy the space-time anomalies that will cause humanity's extinction. The name of this mission: "Grand Order", the name for those who would rise up against human history for the sake of humans, and fight fate itself.

A couple years ago, fellow staff writer Josh Torres shared his impressions of the original launch for Fate/Grand Order and said it is "filled with an abundant amount of interesting ideas." At the time, it was hampered by a lack of content, but apparently has grown by leaps and bounds since then. In the meantime, you can check out the official website for more.
