The Lost Child's Astral Bodies, Archangel Michael, Dark Enoch and More Explained
We are eager to read more information on The Lost Child, an upcoming mythology JRPG created by Sawaki Takeyasu of El Shaddai fame, and both Weekly Famitsu and Dengeki PlayStation magazines this week have new coverages on the game. We have gathered and summarized the information from both magazines for your convenience.
Occult Magazine "LOST"
The protagonist Hayato Ibuki works in the Editorial Department of the occult magazine "LOST", which also acts as the base for movements in this game. Hayato can check memos of rumors to start quests, or his own desk to manage his inventory and save the game.
This section also introduces Hayato's superior, Sarutani the editor-in-chief (voiced by Unsho Ishizuka). He gives the task of examining suspicious rumors and urban legends to Hayato.
Obelisks
In The Lost Child, Obelisk is a device used to collect spirits from people and send them to Heaven. There are 4 Obelisks existing in Earth, and one of them is located in the Akihabara Layer. Hayato will need to investigate Akihabara and collect clues first to determine the exact location of the Layer.
The first Obelisk is being guarded by Hastur, an giant evil deity from the Cthulhu mythos which uses the wind power, has very high intelligence and speaks with philosophical words.
Astral Bodies
The Lost Child features Astral Bodies which are based on mythological figures. These Astral Bodies are categorized into three groups:
- Angels - Beings shrouded in many mysteries who come interfering the Earth in order to capture Devils. Kushinada-hime is an example of an angel.
- Fallen Angels - These beings live together with humans and desire peace in the Earth, which is why they are also interfering in the Angel-Devil Conflict. An example of a fallen angel is Susanoo.
- Devils - They normally should have been hiding in the Layer World, but they become more active due to stop Angels from capturing them. Taira no Masakado is depicted as one of the Devils in this game.
Astral Bodies can be captured by shooting Astral Burst from the Gangaur gun as the finishing blow. Astral Burst damage will vary depending on the element and group of Astral Body loaded in the bullet. However when captured, Astral Bodies will be in an Impure state, so they will need to go through a Purification process first before they can be added as partners.
Astral Bodies can be leveled up by injecting Karma. They can also learn new skills by obtaining Fruit of Wisdom during battles, the chance of which increases the stronger the enemies are. Player can also visit the Chodenji Temple, headed by a Computer Priest (voiced by Shigeru Ushiyama), to swap skills of the same value with Spirit Scales, or Evolve Astral Bodies that have maxed levels. Astral Bodies can be evolved twice, which will both give them new looks and raise their max level limits.
Also introduced in this segment is the archangel Michael (voiced by Kazuaki Yuguchi). He leads the Gregorian Band of Angels and is also the one who ordered Barcia to hand over the Gangaur gun to Hayato. He seems to be speculating about something as he watches over the situation in the Earth.
And finally, these articles also cover more details on Dark Enoch, which is available as first print edition bonus DLC. He would be forcibly summoned by Lucifel who gets concerned about Hayato's fate, causing him to appear in his devil form, consumed by darkness. As Dark Enoch is considered as an Astral Body, he too can be evolved twice, and his final evolved form is hinted to be the true Enoch from the original El Shaddai game.
The Lost Child will be released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita on August 24th in Japan. There is currently no word of an English localization yet.
