Nintendo announces the Super NES Classic Edition
Nintendo today confirmed the existence of something that's been rumored for months (and one we're particularly happy to see) - the Super NES Classic Edition will be released this September.
The line-up for the console is actually pretty incredible, all things considered. There will be 21 games total spread across various genres. Here it is:
Contra III: The Alien Wars™
Donkey Kong Country™
EarthBound™
Final Fantasy III
F-ZERO™
Kirby™ Super Star
Kirby’s Dream Course™
The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™
Mega Man® X
Secret of Mana
Star Fox™
Star Fox™ 2
Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Castlevania IV™
Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts®
Super Mario Kart™
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars™
Super Mario World™
Super Metroid™
Super Punch-Out!! ™
Yoshi’s Island™
It's a pretty amazing collection of games. You've got Final Fantasy III (VI), Earthbound, Secret of Mana, and Super Mario RPG. You've also got the unreleased Star Fox 2 part of the list. How crazy is that?
The Super NES Classic Edition will include one HDMI cable, one USB charging cable with AC adapter, and two wired Super NES Classic Controllers. It will be released on September 29 with a retail price of $79.99. For more information, you can visit the official website.
UPDATE: Nintendo Japan has announced the Super Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom for Japan.
Just like in America and Europe (who shares the same games as America does in the above list), the Super Famicom edition will feature 21 games.
Super Mario World
F-ZERO
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts®
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Soccer
Contra III: The Alien Wars
Super Mario Kart
Star Fox
Secret of Mana
Mega Man X
Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
Super Metroid
Final Fantasy VI
Super Street Fighter II
Donkey Kong Country
Yoshi’s Island
Panel de Pon
Super Mario RPG
Kirby Super Star
Star Fox 2 (*)
The key differences are that Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, Panel de Pon (Tetris Attack), Super Soccer, and The Legend of the Mystical Ninja will be included in their version. It appears they will not be getting Earthbound, Kirby's Dream Course, Super Castlevania IV, and Super Punch-Out!! as a result. Another difference is that we will be getting Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, while Japan will have Super Street Fighter II.
It will be out on October 5 for the suggested retail price of 7,980 yen plus tax.
