Mass Effect: Andromeda likely won't be getting any single player DLC
Mass Effect: Andromeda had, to put it poetically, a rocky launch (get it? Space ships? Nevermind). Though Bioware has made commendable efforts in polishing out the issues with the game with patches and updates, the one lingering question on many people's mind was simple: when are we going to see some single-player DLC for the game?
It's not an unearned question. Some of our favorite content for previous Bioware titles such as Lair of the Shadow Broker, Mass Effect 3's Citadel DLC and Dragon Age: Inquisition's Trespasser are all good, if not great, packages of content that elevate the titles that they are attached to. With many of the kinks of the original launch having since been buffed out for Andromeda, who wouldn't be excited for a similar package for the troubled spin-off.
However, it seems that Bioware's will be skipping Andromeda's post-launch DLC support. According to Kotaku, any plans for single-player DLC (and even a sequel) have been set aside as resources from Bioware Montreal have been reshuffled to assist on other projects within EA:
In April, as we reported, BioWare scaled down its Montreal studio, whose staff had developed Mass Effect: Andromeda with help from BioWare’s other studios in Edmonton and Austin. The chilly reception to Andromeda led the company to transfer BioWare Montreal’s employees to other projects, including Star Wars Battlefront II, Anthem, and the next Dragon Age. Although a small team remains in place to work on Mass Effect: Andromeda’s multiplayer and patch support (which isn’t done yet), most of BioWare Montreal has moved on.
BioWare also shelved plans for a sequel to Mass Effect: Andromeda, sources said.
Complicating factors include a circulating Facebook report claiming that a studio called Sinclair Networks had been sourced to work on Andromeda's DLC, but the project was recently shot down. Bioware has specifically denied working with Sinclair. A glimmer of hope, perhaps, but a bleak outlook remains.
It's a disappointing turn of events to be sure. Despite Andromeda perhaps not living up to expectations, it's a bit saddening to see the series potentially end on a down note.
