Here's What to Expect From Assassin's Creed Origins' Combat
During E3 2017 Ubisoft has unveiled Assassin's Creed Origins as the latest entry in the franchise, introducing us to Bayek and his tale in Ancient Egypt. The more interesting part of this announcement however is the shift to RPG elements in its game design, which we've confirmed to be thoroughly present in the game during our hands-on at E3.
Game director Ashraf Ismail has recently answered fan questions regarding its combat, and although they're pretty common answers, in the context of Assassin's Creed it feels like an attempt to present the series in a refreshing light. Ashraf talks about the significant change in the player's attack system; whereas in previous Assassin's Creed games it's entirely reliant on both the protagonist and enemy to execute an attack animation, in Origins no matter the speed, length, type, and distance of your attack, it can be executed any time. It's a complicated way of explaining the simple transition to an action RPG, but if you've played the previous entries, the change will feel quite big.
You'll be able to immediately see the RPG elements in the variety of weapons that have their respective statuses and attributes. They can also be leveled up, further adding depth in the combat system. Battles have also been adjusted to maintain a good level of difficulty to encourage the player to use more strategy.
Assassin's Creed Origins is expected to be released on the PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 27.
