Code Vein introduces Mia's brother Nikola Karnstein
Not long after publishing a new trailer in Golden Joystick Awards recently, Bandai Namco has come up with a new information batch for Code Vein in the latest Weekly Famitsu magazine. In the early details from the magazine which has been posted by Hachima, we learn more about Mia's little brother Nikola Karnstein that was briefly introduced at last month's Machi Asobi event in Tokushima, Japan.
New Character: Nikola Karnstein (voiced by Hiromi Igarashi)
Mia Karnstein's little brother. He has also become a Revenant who roams the Vein together with his elder sister. He likes Mia a lot and will fight any kind of enemies for her sake.
New Blood Veil type: Ivy
A Blood Veil that is shaped like a muffler. Its normal absorb attack will launch countless thorns on enemies located far away. Parrying enemy attacks will result in a special absorb attack, where after the muffler skewers the enemy, it will launch thorns from within, ripping the enemy to shreds from the inside.
Haze
We have covered about this before in our TGS demo impressions, but Haze is the experience points of this game which would be analogous to Souls in Dark Souls series and Amrita in Nioh. Haze can be obtained by beating enemies or using certain items, and they can be spent to level up the player character. If the player dies, then the collected Haze will drop on that spot and is retrievable as long as the respawned player does not die again before reaching there.
Blood Code
A new equipment type that can be equipped exclusively by the player character. Each Revenant has their own blood types. When they have restored crystals called Blood Calys by using Blood Calys Cores, they can see memories of the crystal's original owners while obtaining an equipable Blood Code that lets them use new Gifts based on the abilities of the original owner. There are several types of Blood Codes known so far:
- Ranger - Emphasizes survivability during explorations
- Hunter - Focuses on long-range attacks
- Berserker - Focuses on close-range attacks
Code Vein will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam worldwide in 2018.
UPDATE
Bandai Namco NA and EU have released new screenshots featuring these characters and gameplay elements, as well as some stills of the game's opening movie animated by studio Ufotable. The screenshots also show off a new snowy area known as The Ridge of Frozen Souls, a "harrowing mountain pass that features limited visibility, narrow ledges, deep snow, and an ice-covered cave."
