Nintendo Switch's online service to launch this September
During a financial results briefing for the fiscal year held a little bit ago, Nintendo finally divulged when we will finally get to try out their full-fledged online service for the Nintendo Switch.
Well, it turns out we won't get to see what that exactly is until this September according to a tweet from the official account. They're clearly still keeping a lot of things under wraps. During the briefing, this is all Nintendo CEO and president Tatsumi Kimishima had to say:
”We reported previously that the service would launch in 2018, and now the official start time has been set to September 2018. Work is progressing on ways to further heighten the gaming experience for consumers. Details will be made available as they are finalized.”
So far, the information we have available is through the official website. We also went over this in a previous post. So far, the only real implementation has been through Splatoon 2 and other games that support the Nintendo Switch app.
You may have remembered there was talk about having a monthly game that would rotate around with users having to purchase the game outright to continue playing it. That plan was scrapped last year in favor of a "Classic Game Selection" with only a few titles to speak of.
We'll have to see if Nintendo has any bigger plans to compete with Sony's Instant Game Collection or Microsoft's Games for Gold promotions. At $20 a year, though, I don't think many will complain about some handouts. Stay tuned to RPG Site for more information on the Nintendo Switch Online service as it's revealed.
