First Screenshots for Disgaea Refine, to be released in the west as Disgaea 1 Complete this Fall
Nippon Ichi Software has opened the official website for Disgaea Refine, a remaster of the original Disgaea. The game is set to release in Japan on July 26 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
UPDATE: NIS America has revealed plans to localize Disgaea Refine as Disgaea 1 Complete, set to release this Fall. Limited Edition versions can be found on the publisher's store for both the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions of the game.
Being a new version for modern consoles, the largest changes seen in the remaster are related to the visuals. While some cutscenes dialogue artwork seems similar to what is found in Disgaea PC - on-field sprites, battlefield art, UI, and other combat cut-in art has been updated for Disgaea 1 Complete.
Original Disgaea
Disgaea Refine / Disgaea 1 Complete
Being a strategy RPG, one of the biggest components is that of various classes of characters you can recruit. The game starts with base classes such as Brawler, Warrior, Ninja, Archer, Mage, and Cleric, and upgraded versions of these classes become available as you progress through the game.
The screenshots also show other aspects of the game, which were also in the original version, such as Transmigration (called Reincarnation in later Disgaea titles), which allows characters to be reborn as Level 1 in a new class with higher stats.
Another feature is the Dark Assembly. This is a returning feature that allows for players to "wish" for various enhancements such as improving the selection of shops or hiring new characters. Judgement on this will be passed by a Congress that will vote Yes or No on your wish. But you can raise the possibility of your wish passing by gifting the members the members of the Dark Assembly gifts.
Other screenshots show more common series' elements such as the Geo Panel system and Item World. All the screenshots and artwork can be found in the gallery.
