Troy Baker reportedly not asked to reprise his role as Yuri in Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition

After being contacted through Twitter earlier today, famed voice actor Troy Baker responded to in inquiry regarding his absence in Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition.

As fans would already know, we in the west missed out on the PlayStation 3 version of Tales of Vesperia which contained additional story content, among other changes. As such, many had hoped Troy Baker would reprise his role as the main protagonist Yuri to provide the voice work required for the additional lines.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Bandai Namco extended the courtesy of contacting him at all, instead mixing his original recordings with the new lines performed by a new voice actor (some listeners think they hear the voice of Grant George). You can hear what we mean in the latest trailers out of TGS 2018 showcasing the added content.

Troy Baker's tweet reads as follows:

“….wow. Yeah, had no idea about this. Was never approached to do any additional lines / scenes. Pretty gutted, to be honest. Love this character so much, would’ve jumped at the chance to step into those boots again.”

Now, one can assume that since Troy Baker's star power has grown by leaps and bounds since those days, Bandai Namco may have been immediately turned off by the idea of covering whatever rate he goes for now and opted to get someone cheaper while deciding not to bother reaching out. Either way, it just goes to show that despite all the remasters coming out, voice acting contracts continue to be one of the most difficult aspects of the entire process.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox ONe, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam wordwide on January 11, 2019.
