Paradox Interactive seems to be teasing a "Vampire: The Masquerade" announcement for March 21, alongside new teaser screenshots
Update March 18 2019:
Over the weekend leading up to GDC, Paradox's Twitter account has been teasing more about their incoming announcement for what many suspect to be their long-rumored "Vampire: The Masquerade" project. Several of the images are highly reminiscent of some memorable moments from Bloodlines, such as the burning Ocean House featured in the original game. This might lend credence to the idea that the project is a remake, but we will know for sure on the 21st. We've collected the teaser images into the gallery below:
Original:
Over the last handful of weeks, Paradox Interactive has been running a pretty involved alternate reality game (ARG) that's seemingly hinting at a new entry, or possibly a remake, in the Vampire: The Masquerade series, which hasn't seen a video game release since 2004's Bloodlines. Paradox acquired the rights to the series back in 2015 with the acquisition of White Wolf along with the rights to all World of Darkness related IPs, which Vampire falls under. Here's a good Rock Paper Shotgun article on the acquisition from back when it happened.
Earlier this month, Paradox kicked off its ARG with the release of Tender, a 'soulmate algorithm' created in the vein of a modern dating app. Since then, the game has bounced between Twitter profiles, private messages through the app, and even an escape room of sorts in New York City, which was streamed on Twitch today. To be honest, following the whole thing is rather involved, but this Game Detectives Wiki Summary provides the nitty-gritty for those that really want to dig into the details. As of the time of writing this, the stream currently loops a short clip of what many believe to be the Santa Monica Pier from the opening of Bloodlines, along with the following message:
PROJECT CHIMERA
File ID: eaafa46a-4506-46a2-80d6-e85edc82a6a5
It's not clear what the code refers to at this moment, but a google search seems to imply it's related to a dice roll app of some sort, which calls back to the tabletop roots of the IP. More importantly, this message was displayed on stream and then shared by Paradox's Twitter account shortly after the looping pier video:
March 21 in San Francisco lines up with this year's Game Developer's Conference, for what it's worth. It's not clear yet whether this is a remake of Bloodlines, a new game within the Vampire: The Masquerade or World of Darkness Universes, or something otherwise related to those. During one of the streams, an escape room contestant broke the fourth wall and stated "Tender is a Vampire: The Masquerade ARG", so Paradox is being clear, but coy, about what to expect.
In any case, we've got our calendars marked.
