Eldest Souls is a subversion of the souls-like genre
Fallen Flag Studio has revealed Eldest Souls, the game development studio's first title which they say will "flips the souls-like genre on its head."
Eldest Souls is a pixel-art RPG that is already suggesting some interesting and rich lore with its first look. "The Old Gods have long been imprisoned," reads an excerpt of the story on the studio's page. "Humanity has been prospering, with great Kingdoms arising on the now forsaken temples of worship. But no longer. In their final act of revenge, the Old Gods have unleashed a great Desolation upon the world." This has led to the destruction of the world's natural balance, with farmlands turning to deserts and rivers crumbling to dust.
It is up to the player to slay the ancient gods by exploring the Citadel, the ancient prison holding these great beings. Quests, mysteries, and interactions with many characters await you, and with a fast-paced action combat system, it will be interesting to see how this indie game will take inspiration from the souls-like genre to hopefully create something exciting and fresh.
Some of the game's features include:
- The Old Gods: Slaying Gods is no easy task. Prepare yourself to be overwhelmed by brutal, challenging encounters, in which Only the most unrelenting will make it through.
- Dying world: Explore and discover the mysterious, ancient Citadel. Prison of the Old Gods, this monument of the Human’s triumph has long be forgotten, and something dark has taken root deep within its mazes.
- Progress & Adapt: Every encounter will the Old Gods will be a unique, new challenge. Claim their power, unlock various Talents and Abilities, and slay them all.
