Yo-Kai Gakuen Y will be released digitally first in Japan, reveals more gameplay details
Level-5 has published more gameplay information along with new screenshots for Yo-Kai Gakuen Y. In this Yo-Kai Watch spin-off, you will be able to play as members of Y Academy's YSP Club who can transform into Yokai Heroes.
The gameplay in Yo-Kai Gakuen Y will progress on a daily basis, starting from entering school in the morning, attending classes, having afternoon break, exiting the school, to nighttime. The afternoon break time - dubbed FST (Free Stay Time) - is where most of the actions take place. You can control the character to interact with other students and receive their Student Cards, or join any other clubs - from research clubs to school paper editor club - and experience from over 400 club activities.
You may also spot silhouette symbols of enemy apparitions while walking around the school and trigger battles against them. Other students will gather to watch the battles and you will want to win in a stylish way to gain Likes from them, which will improve your character's popularity in school. Events like love confessions and fights between other students also happen sporadically, and your responses to them will alter the outcomes.
Yo-Kai Gakuen Y will be released for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in Japan this Summer. An English localization has yet to be announced. Perhaps due to recent circumstances, Level-5 also revealed a unique approach by releasing this game digitally first (the physical release becomes TBA) and adding more features such as Multiplayer mode through monthly free updates.
