Nintendo Wii to invade internet
Nintendo will spend a surprisingly large amount on internet advertising with their new Wii console. In fact, the largest ammount in the history of the company.
"We're just in the final stages of putting our media plan together for Wii, but in terms of online our spend is way more than anything we've ever done before," said Rob Lowe, product manager for Nintendo home consoles.
In an interview with NMA (New Media Age) Lowe stated that a budget of between 10 and 11 million euroes will be allocated to TV, online, other media advertising and sampling. A "large proportion" will be spent on advertising online.
Nintendo will target well-established big internet companies such as Lycos, Yahoo!, and MSN. The campaign, entitled 'Wii Move You' hopes to move you to the nearest game store by invading your most-visited websites "Particularly over the launch week we'll completely take them over -- you'll go online and see Wii everywhere," is Rob Lowe's outlook on the 'Wiinvasion'.
The campaign will start with ligh teasers in October, and heat up on the system's release in December.
