How to progress through Kulve Taroth's investigation

The brilliant sparkling dragon, Kulve Taroth, has appeared. And every hunter in the Gathering Hub must cooperate to proceed with its investigation.

After you have finished the game's storyline and have a Hunter Rank of at least 16, Kulve Taroth's tracks—which are about 40 years old—will start showing up in Expeditions and Optional Quests. Gather them and make a report to the Commander afterward!

The Kulve Taroth special investigation quest can be played alone or up to 4 players, but it can only be taken from the quest counter in the Gathering Hub. All hunters in the same Hub are investigating the same single Kulve Taroth!

In order to finish this investigation, players will need to gather Kulve Taroth's tracks, destroy its body parts, and reduce its health as much as possible. All hunters in the Gathering Hub should contribute with their own preferred ways.

The main objective of this investigation will be to destroy Kulve Taroth's large horns before it leaves the field. When its horns are completely destroyed, the investigation will be marked as a success!

Points to note in the Kulve Taroth Siege

Up to 4 players can participate in the special investigation quest at a time. When another team dealt the finishing blow to Kulve Taroth's horns, all members of the Gathering Hub will get rewards based on their Accomplishment Rates.

  • You can join a Kulve Taroth quest from the quest counter's Ongoing Quests list. However, you won't be able to launch SOS flares during the quest.
  • After the Kulve Taroth quest has ended, you cannot re-take the quest until you have finished taking the rewards.
  • Lucky Vouchers cannot be used in this quest.
  • Tracking Levels from all members of the Gathering Hub will be gathered into the overall investigation level. The higher the levels are, the longer it will take for Kulve Taroth to leave the field, allowing you to break more body parts and raising the probability of success.
  • This quest also has an Accomplishment Rate level that raises based on points you got from completing certain tasks, such as reaching a certain amount of Tracking Level. The higher the Accomplishment level is, the better the rewards you will get after the investigation ends in a success.
  • If another team had completed an Accomplishment task, you will also get a reduced amount of points from the task. But when you accomplish the task by yourself in your current team, you will be able to get the full amount of Accomplishment points.

Special Investigation Rewards: Kulve Taroth Armor & Relic Weapons

When a team in the Gathering Hub manages to completely destroy Kulve Taroth's horns, the investigation is completed, and each member will be able to get rewards based on the Accomplishment Rate at the quest counter.

  • Even after finishing an investigation, you can start working to investigate another Kulve Taroth as long as it's still within the availability period. The Tracking Levels and Accomplishment Rates will be reset to their initial amounts in this case.
  • If you exit the Gathering Hub midway, you will get rewards based on the Accomplishment Rate obtained at the point of exit.
  • You can also opt to receive rewards after the quest's availability period is over.
  • Some of the rewards are golden items that can be appraised to reveal Relic Weapons that have different bonuses for each individual weapon.
  • You can also obtain Dawn Warrior Tickets which can be used to forge a high-rank Warrior Cat Alpha set for your Palico.
  • Joining the Kulve Taroth quest will also unlock new delivery requests that reward new Layered Armors upon completion.

Kulve Taroth Siege Fight Strategy: Kulve Taroth's Attacks, Weaknesses and more

When fighting Kulve Taroth, she has a variety of moves that you should be aware of, each deadly. Here are the ones you should look out for and their telltale signs:

  • Breathing fire - this will come from the Elder Dragon's mouth, obviously, and will burn the ground directly in front of it. You'll know it's coming from a deep intake of breath.
  • If Kulve Taroth rears back onto its hind legs, it'll then slam its front legs down in front of it with all of its body weight, a deadly, forceful slam - get out of the way quickly!
  • When the Elder Dragon checks to one side it's getting ready to roll in that direction to take out anybody that's standing to its side.
  • If you stand too close to Kulve Taroth's front legs it'll swipe at you with its sharp claws, so be prepared for this attack.
  • If you're behind Kulve Taroth, be aware of its tail - it can quickly use this to sweep and clear the area behind it if hunters gang up to its rear.

Given the fire-breathing abilities, we recommend you bring along fire-protective gear - many of which is available in Monster Hunter World's high rank armor sets. Kulve Taroth's lair is also hot enough that you'll need a Cool Drink to even venture in there to chase after it once it's seriously wounded.

Monster Hunter: World is getting a new update patch which mainly adds the Kulve Taroth Siege on April 19. However, just like other Event quests, Kulve Taroth's quest will be only available in a limited rotation.
