Gundam Breaker 4 Derivation Synthesis Guide: How to get Fusion-exclusive unit parts
The Gundam Breaker series has been including a feature inspired by real-life model kit assembly techniques where one may convert an existing part into something else completely new. Originally known as Scratch Build, the feature has since been renamed to Derivation Synthesis, and Bandai Namco has also retained the feature in Gundam Breaker 4.
Just like the technique being referenced, this feature will let you convert an in-game part into another different part. There are also a few parts that can only be exclusively obtained with this method. So read on further if you want to know more about this feature.
The Basics of Derivation Synthesis / Fusion
Derivation Synthesis should be available after you have unlocked the general Synthesis feature by clearing Chapter 2 in the main story. While the regular Synthesis feature (where you can simply raise a part's strength level and rarity star) is also available on the parts set on your current build, you have to choose any part that is not currently being set for the Derivation Synthesis option to show up. Not all parts may have a suitable derivation candidate, though.
This feature will also require you to consume another specific part as a material. The new resulting part will only take its stats from the base part that you selected first, so anything from the second material part will be completely gone. Also, generally speaking, you can mostly generate parts from the same scale grade (HG, MG, or SD). But while some of the fusions involve an HG and SD part, MG parts will be on their own as you cannot use an MG part to replace the HG part in the recipe.
However, most of the unit parts that appear in this game are already obtainable from either purchasing Gunpla kit boxes at the shop or drops from destroyed enemies in Story and Quest missions. For example, the Fuunsaiki horse unit used to be exclusively available via Scratch Builds from the Master Gundam in Gundam Breaker 3. But in this game, a single purchase of the Master Gundam & Fuunsaiki kit will automatically come with the complete parts set for the horse.
Nevertheless, players who want to complete their in-game Gunpla parts collection will eventually want to utilize this feature, as there are a couple of units that can only be exclusively obtained from this method. However, mentioning these units would spoil the endgame parts, so a Spoiler Warning is in effect for the next segment. If you have either cleared the main story or do not mind spoilers, you may continue reading after the jump below.
How to get the Derivation Synthesis / Fusion-exclusive parts in Gundam Breaker 4
The reason we put this segment behind spoiler warnings is because these units would make their debuts at the endgame chapters and also play major parts in the story. The two units in question are the RC-01 Lin Carnation and RC-02 Lilin Carnation.
You do not have to wait until a post-release update patch or the season pass DLC starts rolling out to get these units, as they are immediately available at launch. But as they are not obtainable from conventional methods, here's how you can add them to your Gunpla parts collection.
To start the process, you must have parts from HER-SELF Mobile Doll May and the ZGMF-X13A Providence Gundam on the ready. Selecting Derivation Synthesis on either part should spawn the RC-01 Lin Carnation as one of the possible candidates. As a reminder from the above basics, if you already have one of the required parts enhanced, make sure you set it as the Base Part, since the Material Part's stats will be completely disregarded.
Once you have produced a Lin Carnation part, you can select Derivation Synthesis again on it to show the Lilin Carnation as a fusion candidate. The next material needed will differ based on the part type. The Head and Body parts will require the Mobile Doll May (Real) version, while the others (Right & Left Arms, Legs, and Backpack) need another copy of the regular May part due to the lack of Real versions.
Even after you have completed both Carnation sets, they still won't appear in the Shop lineup as both of them made their grand debuts in this game and Bandai has still yet to release their Gunpla kits in the real world. These units never appear as enemy units at in-game missions either (at least, before the DLC missions come out).
You can technically find them in the Bounty Hunter mode if someone has uploaded units that use these parts, though with a plethora of unique builds getting uploaded to the server, the chances of you encountering a unit with Carnation parts may not be as high. That's why Derivation Synthesis is currently the most effective way to get these exclusive parts.
As a side note, both of the Carnation sets have the same restrictions as other human-like sets such as Super Fumina: None of the units' parts can be recolored except for the Backpack part. That being said, the Carnation sets look pretty much the same other than the different colors (Red for Lin and Blue for Lilin), although it does end up limiting the color options if you want to incorporate them into your Gunpla designs.
