Touhou Spell Carnival Japanese release delayed to June 6
Compile Heart and Idea Factory announced a delay to the Japanese release of Touhou Spell Carnival. The game was originally scheduled to appear in Japan on April 18. But after this delay announcement, it will now be released on June 6. The companies did not offer a specific reason for the postponement as they mentioned "various circumstances".
Touhou Spell Carnival is slated to be a turn-based strategy RPG with bullet-grazing features taken from the franchise's original shmup games. In addition to regular movements, this game will feature a Graze mode where characters deliberately navigate nearby enemy bullets to fill the gauge needed to unleash their own Spell Card attacks.
To compensate for the delay, Compile Heart revealed a new addition to the game's physical pre-order bonuses. Early physical copies will now also come with a full set of 54 playing cards with illustrations of the game's characters. The King, Queen, Jack, Ace, and Joker cards will particularly feature special character illustrations. Some of the characters who will be featured in the cards will include Hakurei Reimu, Kirisame Marisa, Yakumo Yukari, Remilia Scarlet, and Saigyouji Yuyuko, as indicated by the sample images shared right below:
Touhou Spell Carnival will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Neither Compile Heart nor their parent company Idea Factory have confirmed an English localization for this turn-based strategy RPG as of yet.
