Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket helped DeNA gain a massive increase in profit from games in Q3 FY2024
Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket has been generating a lot of buzz in the global mobile gaming market in recent months, and it also helped its developer DeNA gain a massive increase in their year-to-date profits compared to the previous year. When the company published their quarterly financial report for Q3 in the 2024-2025 fiscal year, parts of the document focused on this game's massive contributions.
Page 8 of the document exclusively covered Pokemon TCG Pocket, which had surpassed 60 million downloads worldwide as of December 2024. The company added that the continuity rate of players remaining engaged in the game remains very high, and they also noticed that many of them are still subscribed to the game's Premium Pass.
The preceding Page 7 shows quarterly charts that display how much the new game contributed to the company's game division. The more simple chart on the right shows the segment profit from DeNA's game projects. You can see how the company went from a loss of 200 million yen in October-December 2023 and a modest profit of 1.5 billion yen in July-September 2024 to a whopping 18.6 billion yen (around $122.8 million) in October-December 2024 after TCG Pocket had launched in the timeframe. The table on Page 4 also shows drastic increases in percentages; The Q3 FY2024 game segment profits were an increase of 1131% compared to Q2, and the cumulative three-quarter earnings so far in FY2024 were on a staggering 8127% when compared to FY2023.
Meanwhile, the other chart on the left side of Page 7 shows the amount of money users have spent on DeNA's games. While the Japanese domestic browser games maintain a steady flow of around 9 billion yen, the domestic apps had an increase from 6.9B to 35.3B yen (~$233.2 million). The international app market outside Japan has an even more profound effect by going from 5.9B to 50.8B yen (~$335.7 million).

To conclude the game's coverage, DeNA has promised that they will continue to update the game with both new features and booster packs. Following the game's launch, we have seen them gradually adding new packs like the Mew-themed Mythical Island and the Gen IV-focused Space-Time Smackdown, as well as long-promised features like card trading. However, remember that Space-Time Smackdown just appeared last January which would count towards Q4, so we can expect another tremendous earnings report from DeNA in the next quarter.
