Tyranny is Obsidian's all-new PC RPG
Much-loved RPG storyteller Obsidian Entertainment is partnering with Paradox Interactive to release Tyranny, an all new RPG property for PC, Mac and Linux.
In an interesting twist on the typical RPG story tropes, Tyranny sees the player thrust into a world where the evil empire has already won, the world ruled over by a despotic overlord - but instead of the grand, rescuing hero, the player is instead cast as a member of the overlord's forces. Obsidian promises a non-linear story structure with a variety of choice, with the player able to roam the land acting as judge, jury and executioner - and many of the choices won't be morally easy to swallow.
Tyranny seems to follow up on work done by Obsidian in Pillars of Eternity, which was part of a firm resurgence of the 'classic' style of PC RPG seen over the last several years.
"With Tyranny, we love the twist we’ve put on the world which started with the premise ‘What if evil already won?’," Obsidian boss Feargus Urquhart said. "Coupled with that is our ongoing dedication to giving our players games full of choice and consequence. Games they can play not just once, but many times."
