NIS America is localizing Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, and it's coming to Steam
During NIS America's annual press event in San Francisco, the publisher announced that they will be handling the localization duties for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. In addition to the PlayStation 4 and Vita versions, NISA will also port the game to PC via Steam. The game will feature both English and Japanese vocies. It's set to release later this year.
This is the first time the publisher will be handling the translation for a Ys title, although they are not completely new to the Ys series - NIS America published the European release of Ys: Memories of Celceta back in 2014.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana originally released for PlayStation Vita in Japan last July, while the PlayStation 4 version is set to launch this May in the region. The PlayStation 4 release includes some added scenarios featuring the game's deuteragonist, Dana, as well as 60 frame-per-second gameplay and other performance improvements.
The latest Ys game takes place in the on the Seiren Island, where Adol and other passengers find themselves stranded after their ship capsizes in the Goethe Sea. Lacrimosa of Dana follows in the same style of gameplay used in Ys Seven and Memories of Celceta, where Adol is joined by a cast of party members in real time action combat system. The cartography system from Celceta also makes a reappearance, as do systems such as Flash Guard. New to Lacrimosa of Dana is a quest where Adol seeks out NPCs to build a settlement and defend it from attacks.
