Mass Effect 3 Confirmed, Gets Release Window and First Trailer

EA and Bioware have just confirmed Mass Effect 3 is indeed real and arriving next year. The announcement was made at the Spike TV Video Game Awards, which are currently airing live in the US. The trailer gives an "Holiday 2011" release date.

The trailer shown confirms the leaked synopsis we posted yesterday, showing off London in ruins as a soldier hopes and prays that Commander Shepard can return to the planet in time with a fleet large enough to take down the Reaper threat that is decimating the planet.

Here's that synopsis again, for those of you who missed it:
"Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth."
